Cloud Jar

An interesting hands-on activity to teach how rain occurs.

This experiment reinforces the children’s fine motor skills, focus and coordination. It also introduces the concept of how rain occurs when the clouds are too heavy, holding in too much moisture.

You will need the following :

  • Coloured water
  • Clear jar/glass/vase with water
  • Shaving foam
  • Syringe/Eyedropper/Pipette
Step 1
Squirt the shaving cream (cloud) on top of the water.
Step 2
Have your child to slowly transfer the coloured water onto the shaving foam using a syringe/ eyedropper/ pipette.
Step 3
Observe how the “clouds” hold the coloured water until it becomes too heavy and starts to “rain”.
