Make a sweet treat with your child this Valentines’ day while learning about the science theory of how the sugar crystals are form!
Why this happens:
Water molecules move slowly up into the air as water vapor during the process of evaporation. As more and more water evaporates, sugar atoms draw close together, forming cube-shaped sugar crystals. And that’s just what you’ll see left behind on the string after the water is all gone!
You will need:
- 2 cups of water
- 4 cups of granulated sugar
- ½ – 1 tablesppon of flavouring extract or oil
- Food colouring
- Skewer or thread
- Glass Jar
